THE COURSE SCHEDULE

The course is run to the Department of Transport standard (Document of Understanding), over a two week period, running from 18h00 to 22h00 each evening. There are six lectures:- Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and then the following week Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday again unless public holidays interfere with this.

Courses can be run at other locations and customised to yours needs.

You will also need to attend a theory examination to complete the theory requirements of the course. This will be arranged during the lectures at a time convenient to the majority of the candidates.

We have a practical session at Sodwana Bay over a weekend which is not included in the theory or exam and paperwork fee but can be arranged on application. Please be advised that if you are not in possession of your own vessel you are to inform us so that arrangements can be made prior to the departure for the coast. You need to get yourself to Sodwana and also house and feed yourself there.

Based on your passing both the whole theory exam and a surf practical, run seperately to the theory course, with a certificated surf examiner you will receive an unrestricted Department of Transport skipper certificate of competency. (TV5/53)

You will also need to supply the following paperwork yourself:-

• 4 Passport photographs (head and shoulders) with your name on the reverse. (This can be done on site for you if you wish at a cost of R15.00 for b/w or R25.00 for colour)
• Certified copy of your Book of Life or Passport
• Eye test certificate (form supplied)
• Affidavit (form supplied)
• Application form (supplied)

The cost of the theory course only is R500-00. Course material will be supplied seperately.

The venue is the Malvern Tennis Club Clubhouse, corner Loch and Galteemore Street West, Malvern, Johannesburg.
